emdr therapy in victoria, bc

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapy is an evidence-based approach to process past experiences and build a flourishing future

EMDR Therapy uses bilateral stimulation—usually through eye movements and tactile tools—and contained focus on memories, sensations, and beliefs, to reduce mental and emotional pain and bolster supportive beliefs.

As a psychotherapy, EMDR has been extensively researched and found to be an effective method in the treatment of PTSD, complex trauma, anxiety, and depression. EMDR has also been shown to help individuals struggling with grief, disordered eating, and negative self-talk.

Taylor brings a relational, somatic, and belief-focused stance into EMDR therapy. She has found EMDR to be a powerful approach to support healing, rewire limiting beliefs, and increase one’s self-belief.

how is EMDR different from talk therapy?

In EMDR therapy, we do not need to talk about your distressing past at length. Rather, we focus on the emotions, beliefs, and behaviours that have resulted from your past. While we are in part shaped by our past experiences and relationships, our brains and bodies have a natural healing tendency that is supported with EMDR.

EMDR therapy is a somatic therapy designed to resolve unprocessed traumatic memories, helping individuals safely move through stuck stress responses, like fight, flight, freeze, and fawn. This allows for new emotions, beliefs, insights, and possibilities to organically take root, while reducing the pain and impact of the past.

Here is a 10-minute video introducing EMDR therapy, from the EMDR International Association.

I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) living and working on Lekwungen territory in Victoria, BC. When I’m not with clients, you can find me feverishly clacking away on my laptop like Carrie Bradshaw, hand-building ceramics, hosting dinner parties, and wandering through the woods or beach with my dog, Marzy.

I’m your gal if you want a therapist who affirms your brilliance, guides you through emotions with compassion and warmth, and lovingly holds you to the life you deserve.

I’m currently accepting new clients for in-person and online therapy.
